ARTICLE III. MEMBERSHIP
Section 1. Membership in the organization is only to be granted to current San Diego State University undergraduate students.
Vice President will keep track of everyone’s attendance at meetings and events and will be responsible for keeping track of membership status.
President holds power to change point values dependent on importance or size of event, at any given time throughout the year.
Section 1. Membership in the organization is only to be granted to current San Diego State University undergraduate students.
- Students must be in good academic standing according to the requirements of the university. This organization will not have associated members who are non-students or who do not meet the criteria. Eligibility for membership, appointed, or elected student officer positions may not be limited on the basis of race, religion, national origin, ethnicity, color, age, gender, gender identity, marital status, citizenship, sexual orientation, or disability. The organization shall have no rules or policies that discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national origin, ethnicity, color, age, gender, gender identity, marital status, citizenship, sexual orientation, or disability.
- An Individual fills out a membership application, “signs” the ASMA constitution and pays membership fee. The membership fee paid in Fall semester covers the academic school year. Fees can be paid to the Treasurer or President.
- Amount for membership fee is $15 dollars per semester)
- The fee will cover an organization shirt, gas/carpool reimbursement for events and help cover social events.
- Dues must be paid by the second week of Fall semester
- If one cannot afford it, special payment plan can be arranged with Treasurer.
- Members who have not paid their dues by the due date, shall not be considered active and lose all membership privileges until dues are paid. (Mid Semester joinees)
- This includes voting
- If the individual fails to complete the active requirements (stated below) before Fall Semester, the status of their membership will be changed at the discretion of the President. See below.
- Membership statuses and the criteria that define them:
- To have active membership status, it is required to attend at least 6 meetings per semester (7 in Fall and 10 in Spring) and must attend at least 4 events per semester to be considered active. If an individual CANNOT attend at least 6 meetings, they can still hold active status by attending 4 extra events (social, fundraising, community service or proof of anything healthcare or student organization related). Also must meet Required point total for active status. *see Point System below* If the individual signs up for an event and is unable to attend, the individual must give the Secretary 24 hours’ notice. Failure to do so will result in the individual losing event credit (cannot have negative event credit) and cannot make up those lost points. can vote in election as well as run for an officer position. Will also receive certificate at the end of the year, if held active status in its entirety.
- To have part time membership status, it is required to attend at least 4 meetings per semester (10 in Fall and 10 in Spring) and must attend at least 2 events per semester to be considered active. If an individual CANNOT attend at least 4 meetings, they can still hold active status by attending 2 extra events (social, fundraising, community service or proof of anything healthcare or student organization related). If the individual signs up for an event and is unable to attend, the individual must give the Secretary 24 hours’ notice. Failure to do so will result in the individual losing event credit (cannot have negative event credit) and cannot make up those lost points. Will be allowed to vote in election but cannot run for an officer position. Will also receive a certificate at the end of the year.
- In the case where one cannot make event but would still like a part time membership status, one can have event membership status. This means they are not required to make meetings but must participate in at least 6 events per semester. If the individual signs up for an event and is unable to attend, the individual must give the Secretary 24 hours’ notice. Failure to do so will result in the individual losing event credit (cannot have negative event credit) and cannot make up those lost points. Will still receive a certificate at the end of the semester but loses right to vote or run for office.
- To have a dues membership status, can choose which events or meetings to attend. There is no point requirement or meeting requirement. Simply pays membership fee and can attend events/meetings at their leisure. However, the cannot vote or run for office and will NOT receive a certificate at the end of the year.

- Point System- Not restricted to only our organization events. If involved with other organization (i.e. Greek House or other student org) that require similar hours, they can used to fulfill point requirements here.
- Mandatory Points (minimum per event):
- 2 Fundraisers = 2 Points (1 point each)
- 2 Social Events = 2 Points (1 point each)
- 20 hours of Sports Medicine/Healthcare related experience= 10 Points
- Total 14 Points Mandatory from above
- *** To become an active member, you will need an additional 4 points***
- Suggestions on how to get additional points:
- Fundraising = 1 Point
- Community Service 1 hour = 1 point (2 Points Max)
- Examples of other ways to gain points:
- Currently be involved with or newly join another pre-professional health organization on campus (1 Point)
- Currently be involved with or newly join another sports medicine organization on campus (1 Point)
- Perfect Attendance for Meetings (1 Point)
- Become a peer mentor in the HPAO office (1 Point)
- Attend a study session (1 Point)
- Refer a guest speaker to President (1 Point)
- Total of 18 points required to be considered for active membership status.
- Total of 12 points required to be part time
- No point total required to be a dues member
